TRIBALINKS was founded in 1990 by designer Phyllis Woods. Her studio is in Tucson, Arizona.  She employs a globally sourced assortment of components a  is dedicated to fair trade principles and provides income for African craftsman and their families.

This line of jewelry is made with the Fulani tribe, of the Northern part of Mali, West Africa.  The Fulani have been know for centuries for their hand forged classical twisted, seedpod-like jewelry. Their famous earrings were originally made of gold, as the women wore the wealth of the family on their ears. Over time, gold was not easily affordable, but the craftsmen have continued creating this jewelry from recycled materials. In the 1980s they were made from melted down old bracelets. Now the materials come from old car radiators.
