Heshima Kenya

Heshima Kenya specializes in identifying and protecting unaccompanied and separated refugee children and youth, especially girls, young women and their children living in Nairobi, Kenya. Our shelter, education and community outreach services, coupled with local resources and the refugee community, empower this population to live healthy lives.  By providing resources for long-term support, these girls and young women become catalysts for strengthening networks creating sustainable change within the local and global communities.

Each scarf is designed and created by the Maisha Collective, a project of Heshima Kenya. This organization provides a way for young refugee girls and young women from DR Congo, Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, and Burundi to rebuild their lives with peace and dignity. Through the scarf production, the women are provided with the opportunity to develop confidence and gain skills for future independence.

Scarves in the Maisha Collective use traditional African dyeing techniques, called resist dyeing. Each scarf is hand-made and one-of-a-kind.

Your scarf purchase contributes directly to the wages and support of each woman, as well as Heshima Kenya’s education and shelter program. Most importantly, your purchase inspires each women’s journey to become empowered and ultimately protect other refugee women. Truly, every scarf tells a story.
