Meet the Team: Elise Kline~The "Beauty" Enthusiast

What does it mean to be beautiful? How do I feel beautiful? How do I achieve the requirements to be“beautiful”?

Throughout my aspiring career in fashion and my life experience, the central word that I have had to define and redefine is “beauty”.

For a long time, I thought that I had the definition of beauty all worked out and I had a plan to achieve it. However, that led me down a very dangerous path, one where my emotional and physical health suffered, because that image of “beauty” that I was trying to achieve was based on unhealthy standards from outside voices. So, when that image no longer made sense for me, I had to develop a new image, my own image of what it means to be beautiful.

Especially in the fashion world, the word “beautiful” is an important part of the vocabulary and plays an important role that facilitates a variety of images that emulate beauty.

Just one outfit can be styled in a variety of ways and looks different on each individual. Each individual brings their own unique beauty to what they wear and how they wear it.

Style is also something that can change along with the seasons and your personal preference. Style can evolve with you over time.

Your fashion sense or your style is an incredible way to express your own beauty. It gives you endless possibilities to create your own vision of beauty.

From my experience, I believe that the best way to define and express the word “beautiful” is to do so with your own words and your own style. Make your own image based on your own unique quirks and qualities that make you YOU.

I have learned to believe that beauty truly does come in all different shapes and sizes and there is no one cookie cutter image that defines whether you fit the bill or not.

If you’re like me, sometimes you need to belt out those lyrics from Christina Aguilera’s song “Beautiful” for a little inspiration.

During my time working on the Ash & Rose team, I have had the awesome opportunity to help direct several different photoshoots where I watched production process unfold into stunning and uniquely beautiful images.

What I found most beautiful however, was the inspiring self-confidence that beamed from each of the models’ photographs.

It takes bravery to love yourself and be confident. It takes strength, determination and resilience to combat those who might try and contaminate your positive definition. My soapbox centers around that self-confidence because for a long time I let others define my beauty and my worth instead of doing it myself. I have since learned that I have the control to feel good about myself and I don’t have to let others define my beauty or my worth.

It’s not always easy but I truly believe that if I can just tell myself that I think I am beautiful and I love myself then I can do anything.

A huge part of my journey, in my career aspirations and in my personal life, was and still is practicing self-confidence and making my own definitions not only for the word “beauty” but for other important words like, “strength”, “confidence”, “intelligence” etc.

I share this with you today because we all have a story and we all deserve to define the important vocabulary in our own words.

Speak your truth and the truth is you are beautiful in every single possible way.

XOXO

Elise
